Frequently asked questions
Licenses, installing, updates, and what each plugin does.
Licenses
How many computers can I use a plugin on?
Three. Each license key can be active on up to three computers at once, Windows and Mac mixed.
Is the license mine forever?
Yes. A license you buy is perpetual, and updates of the plugin are free. Your key keeps working with every new version.
I replaced a computer and all three slots are used. What now?
Sign in to your account, find the plugin and remove the computer you no longer use, or press "Request refill" to free all three slots. If it's your only refill request in the last three months it's approved straight away; otherwise we review it by hand, usually within a day or two. Computers that already have the plugin keep working.
How do I move a license to a new computer?
On the old computer, open the plugin, click Register and press "Deactivate this computer". Or remove the old computer in your account. Then activate on the new one, with AVESTEIN Connect or by pasting your key into the plugin.
My studio computer has no internet. Can I still register?
Yes. Open the plugin's Register window and note "This computer"'s ID. On any device with internet, go to avestein.com/activate, enter your key and that ID, and load the license file it gives you into the plugin.
Can I try a plugin before buying?
Yes: every plugin can be tried free for 3 days, in full. Press Try it on the plugin's page, or in AVESTEIN Connect's Store, and Connect installs and activates it. Each person and each computer gets one free trial of each plugin. Without a license or a trial, a plugin passes sound through unprocessed.
Can I get a refund?
Because licenses are delivered instantly and can't be returned, all sales are final. Please try it free for 3 days before you buy. See the refund policy for details, including what happens if a plugin can't work on your computer.
Installing and updates
What is AVESTEIN Connect?
A free app for Windows and Mac. Sign in, and it installs, updates, activates and uninstalls your plugins for you, starts free trials, and tells you when a new version is out.
Which computers and hosts are supported?
Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) and macOS 11 or newer on Apple silicon or Intel. Plugins come as VST3 (Ableton Live, Cubase, Studio One, FL Studio, Reaper, Bitwig and more), Audio Units on the Mac (Logic, GarageBand) and as standalone apps.
Windows or my Mac warns about the installer. Is it safe?
Yes. AVESTEIN's apps aren't yet signed with a paid Microsoft or Apple certificate, so the system asks first. On Windows choose "More info", then "Run anyway". On a Mac, open System Settings, Privacy & Security, and click "Open Anyway" next to AVESTEIN Connect. Only download AVESTEIN software from avestein.com.
Where are the plugins installed?
Windows: VST3 plugins go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3. Mac: ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3 and Components (Audio Units). If your host doesn't see a new plugin, rescan its plugin folders.
How do I sign in?
With your email address and password, on the website and in AVESTEIN Connect. New here? Choose Create account; we email you a code to confirm the address. Got a plugin as a gift, or bought before making an account? Choose "Forgot password" to set a password for that address.
